Default Windscreen/Roof trim paint issue

I have noticed the lacquer is coming off my roof trim just below the roof bars. I believe they are coloured plastic rather than painted (I had to get a piece last year and they told me they were coloured rather than painted).

Has anyone else seen this happen? They are a pig to paint because there is the little black lip either side and masking them is a pain. I was thinking about painting them satin black for example to tidy them all up.

Pest as it detracts from the whole car.

I wonder what they would look like satin black seeing as my roof bars are black too...

Or, do I paint the whole lot white, lip the lot?!?

I have just done mine. They are black underneath with a colour coating which may or may not be paint. Take them off....rub them down with wet'n'dry...clean them....mask off the black lip....and get to it with a spray gun, aerosol etc

Its more daunting than difficult and makes a world of difference.

Good luck

Mine are the same. I believe they are aluminium strips coated with coloured plastic and the bubbling is caused by corrosion and oxidisation. I once tried using a pin to let the air out and flattening the bubble and it works but it's not a long term fix. It might even be worse if it lets moisture in again but mine are still ok. I've just learned to ignore it.
