Just about to start having a go to change my radiator today.

I've had the coolant low message coming up every 1000 miles for a few months now, I asked the dealer on the last service to investigate and let me know what was up.

However they just topped it up and ignored me.

I spotted the white dusty marks from evaporated coolant on the metal work just behind the radiator on the lower drivers side (looking under the bonnet) this appears to be the most common failure area. After a run I could see water coming out in this area also.

So I'll try changing it, (especially as winter is starting to set in and I want to know that the coolant ratio is correct).

Think Clan was refering to an service bulletin issue where a lot of cars came off production with an incorrect coolant ratio which has subsequently caused corrosion (holes) in the weakest link (radiator).

okay.... all finished.

Rad replacement took me 6 hours, front bumper off, front slam panel off and all front structural beams removed.

It's then possible to split up the rads and intercooler (2 bolts on the bottom of the pack) leave the aircon one in there and pull the rad out from the front, you can also take the fans out the same way. Saves struggling to take it out the top.
