My father was a biology teacher. When the school moved premises, his solution to moving the life-size model skeleton was to strap it in the front seat of the car (this when seat belts were quite the new thing!) and drive it across town. Apparently he got some very strange looks...

True story!

Cool

I was going to put my mother in law on the roof rack once, but she is more than 100kgs. I put her in the boot before we stopped feeding her, but the Police stopped me because my headlights were aimed too high even with them adjusted fully down. I hope she will fit on the rear bike rack soon as that is good for 50kgs, otherwise I will finish up nearly deaf again!

I can report that a Talbot Sunbeam 1600 engine complete, is too much for an Austin Allegro of years ago, especially over a humpback bridge, as a friend found out.....!

When I had a 306 (I know sorry lol) basically anything that fits on a 306 can go in a 306, there a photo on a 306 forum with an entire engine, gearbox and driveshafts in the boot lol suspension looked a tad low though :P

Pants, I was thinking of shifting the 850 and getting a V40, but if that is right, Volvo must be designing for really skinny Swedes with minimal luggage. (I'm 1.95m tall and a healthy looking 110kg, my boys are heading for the same height).

No good for family camping then?

Default Load

I ride a motorbike and sometimes use it to go shopping. When deciding if it's a reasonable load I ask myself 2 questions:

Can I strap it on securely?
Does it weight less than my wife?
What will my route and speed be?

3, 3 questions

So far, tiles in boxes, half a sheep (frozen and jointed), a boxed rucksac type child carrier and bicycle wheels have passed the test.

Are there strapping points in the boot? I know that there is a luggage strap etc but are there proper securing points in the boot at all? Speed will be slow, its a short trip, am hoping to be able to keep the back seats up and cross strap the rear seatbelts (as I usually do anyway) as a second line of defence.

I once put about 20 paving slabs in the boot of my Astra. The very same Astra that also took 8x8' fenceposts and 30 decking sheets.

I hated that car and tried to kill it as often as possible. In the end I chopped it in and told the wife it had failed the MOT - don't know if it would have passed or not but it was so hateful I couldn't face another year of driving it.

The Toyota Camry that replaced it was even worse, could only fit six dead whores in there _ I could have probably fitted eight in if I had froze them and sliced them up first I reckon.
