C70 full electric but not heated? Can I add it?
Hi guys,
First post for me! I've done some searching around the forums but came up fruitless. Made the mistake of buying my C70 T5 SE Lux auto long distance, said it had the winter pack etc incl. heated seats, parking sensors etc. Long story short, I didn't travel all that way to not come home with a car so bit the bullet and bought it anyway. another £800+ down the road on repairs, she's spot on for the foreseeable future except for the toys I'm missing. Probably should have held out for the right one really but here we are anyway! The seats are fully electric and memory, but not heated which I am gutted about. Do the seats have the heating elements built in but disconnected from the factory? Or do I need new seats? Do I just need the dash switches to activate them, or is it seats, switch and coding to get them working? I'm gutted they don't have them heated as standard since the SE Lux RRP was over £31k! If anyone could point me in the right direction, since its coming up to the time of the year when I'd have them warming the cheeks on all drives like I did in my old car!! Cheers, Jordan |

Hi
Have read few threads on US forum with similar questions. Unfortunately its a bit of a hassle - heating mats are not there so you need to add them (or like others - replace the whole seat). Then you need to change the waterfall console to the one with heated switches AND program the whole thing to the car ECU so Vida or dealer job. All in all - not worth it. Much cheaper option - get aftermarket heating mats, put them onto your existing seats and wire it separately with switch bypassing the whole "coding to the car" nonsence. Less expensive and much simpler. Btw - I was in the similar position as you, coming from heated leather on old S40 to non heated on my V50, but learned to live with it as neither of the above options was worth the hassle for me. But I cant understand anyone ordering car from dealership with leather seats and no heating... :/

Someone ordered my SE Lux with leather but no heated seats as well. Just how expensive an option was it?

Heh, obviously everyone have their own preferences (and butt cheecks :P). It was not a deal breaker for me at all, but would welcome the option on cold, irish mornings, for sure.
Baxlin - according to the leaflet I found, winter pack was extra 350GBP so pennies comparing to price of the car... some people... ( ) for extra 500Gbp on top of that you could also have BiXenon pack, and THAT is something I really cant get over ...

Thanks for the input guys, I have a friend with a Mondeo Titanium X which has heated seats. He knew there was an option for both heated and cooled seats so decided to buy the switches and hey presto, he now has heated and cooled seats for the grand total of around £20 plus about 15 minutes to fit the switches. Seems like its not worth it on our cars, although I have found a waterfall console for £35, driver seat from an S40 for £50 and I could probably have it coded at my local Volvo specialist (not a dealer, just a guy who used to work for them who has all the kit) for a few quid.
Probably not worth it since I have the idea of picking up a Jaguar XF Portfolio next year which has all the toys on it already :P I too would have loved the Bi-xenon, not sure why anyone would pay upwards of 30k and not choose them or heated seats (or parking sensors for that matter!) but the sound system is awesome at least! I've just stuck a HID kit in the projectors for now since the halogen bulbs feel like driving behind a dim torch!! |

Remember that changing almost anything in our cars require "software download" from Volvo server... Im surprised that changing the smell of screenwash does not require coding to the car... ;P +1 to HIDs, stock lights are.... well, they simply aren't there .... but I hope you did the research ref HIDs and WMM burnouts it may cause and you did the dealer reflash and switched off DRLs? (and hopefully run mass ground cable)
