Removal and fitting new bushes on wishbone?
Any advice on removal and fitting new bushes rather than buying whole new wishbones please.
Can it be done with a ball joint press kit? Many thanks.

With all that kind of stuff it depends on whether the jigs and fittings you have match the dimensions of your work.
The throats (width capacities) of the vice hardware has to be adequate. If you have a larger bench vice, an assortment of sockets and pipe (and ideally, a lathe) give it a go. I wanted to try this job but decided to use a local, competent press shop which does work for garages and individuals. $7.50 X 4 + tax = $32.10 in The Garden State. They didn't scratch the arms once. Also, I took the possibility of cracking the thin alloy into account (aka 'chickened out'). |

I've installed new rubber bushes. Few points. It's easy to remove the old ones, just drill the rubber all around, then cut/bend/kick the remaining sleeve out. Easy. Getting new rubber bushes inside takes a fitting around the bush metal frame, and punch like Hulk with a heavy hammer on the fitting (not on the bush rod). It works, but the fitting must be home made. Or same but use a 20t press.
But the most important thing, is the bush quality. I've used 'Lemforder' bushes both for front and rear. Came in Lemforder boxes. The front one is still good, but the rear one has cracked. Conclusion: Lemoforder or Volvo bushes sold separately are fake, packed in original boxes. Even the brand name scratched off on these bushes is fake. My advice for a tight budget, search the breakers/Ebay for an original recent Volvo wishbone, these have the date stamped on them, something post 2006-7 should still be good.

It can be done.
I've seen a thread somewhere, think it was one here with pictures about how to make a press with threaded bar, in a (wooden?) frame with some additional 2x2 or 3x3 timber to act as pressure plates and pushed the bushes straight in.
I thought it was "Shade tec" or "4candles" but as I looked and could not find the relevant thread I'm probably wrong with the names. I would suggest consider re-bushing 2nd hand arms first, so if things go belly up when pressing the bushes, your car is still on the road. Cheers Bob |

That's what I did and why. |

Well I have decided to have a go at installing the new bushes myself. I do have a really good quality air wrench in my tool kit to help with this job.
For £120 I'm hoping I'll get the job done and have another decent tool at my disposal. I'll update this post in a few days. 171054559774 - eBay ID for Meyle HD bushes. 142420559806 - eBay ID for the Ball Joint Press Kit. Couple of vids on what I hope to achieve: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNkzmBLwBYU&t=320s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGP2aOFDSdQ&t=16s

Yo tackit (or anyone else), a favor please.....
Please measure the large, forward bushes diameter and length for me. I now have a 2007 and was wondering if the bushes were the same size as the 2000 to 2006 P2's. To my eye, the forward bushing of the '07 seems larger in diameter. |

Forget trying to press out/in your own bushes. You will require industrial equipment.
