Default Boost leak

Had my s60 about 2 months now, first week I had it it popped the gasket on the resonator pipe off the turbo, replaced it with a new gasket, ran sweet but when it gets a foot full and is boosting it throws up a service maintenance message and standing at the drivers side front wheel I can hear a popping like theres an inlet air pipe off it.

The car stilll accellerates well and shows on accelleration black smoke so I am thinking bad intercooler. The car doesnt drop into limp mode and just feels like it has not as much get up and go as it should have.

Going to try and see if I can get some sort of boost leak test set up and see where to go from there, anyone had this issue with their intercooler as they do seem really commonplace to explode.

Is it the D5 engine?
When my intercooler failed I could hear a 'whoosh' sound from the front grill area if I listened while someone revved it to 3-4000 rpm.
Not too difficult to replace.
