They are non interference engines so no damage can be caused

No damage apart from the cam belt top cover breaking, that was replaced with s new one. I fitted the cam belt and new tensioner myself, replacing the oil seals at the same time. I checked and double checked the timing and the car runs as good as or better ( tensioner is now quiet ) than it did before. I presume I would have to remove the crank pulley again to check the marks, I borrowed the holding tool so I would have to borrow it again to check ??

No, there's a TDC mark on the crank pulley so you don't need to remove it to check, pop the top cover off and set the crank to TDC and the marks should line up as before. Have you retensioned the cam belt after doing 600 miles? Basically you pop the grommet out of the lower timing cover, slacken the tensioner locknut, let the spring tighten things and re-tighten the tensioner locknut, refit the grommet and job done.

You may well have got it right or apparently so but now the belt has stretched a little and settled in, it might show you got it a tooth out.

I'm actually hoping you did get it a tooth out, not to prove me right but to give a very valid reason for the mixture being out when everything else seems so right.

Quick help needed. Think my belt timing is actually out, do I use the centre of the three marks on the bottom cam cover ??

Those pics should tell you what you need to know. Bottom one is a drawing and not particularly clear in what it tries to convey, the 0 deg mark is the last one on the end, you can see the 30, 20 and 10 deg BTDC marks and between each is a shorter mark showing the 5 deg increments between them. Looking past the 10 deg mark, you can see in the drawing the notch on the pulley isn't quite aligned to the 0 deg BTDC (aka TDC) but is drawn somewhere between 5 deg BTDC and TDC.

Good luck!

Thanks Dave, again. Hope I have got this right as my marks on the cam cover are different to your picture.
I set the crank pulley as per picture, if I turned the crank 10 degrees further clockwise it didn't seem to make much of a difference on the cam sprocket ie it still looked like I was one notch out.
