Had the same prob on my v70, changed to the xc90 bolt. My normal bolts should be 35nm but the updated needs to be 50 nm using a torque wrench.

Another vote for the Driveshaft bolt(s) here.
I was having exactly the same issue with my S60 - booked in at my local volvo indie and they confirmed the same - one of the bolts had worked itself loose. I was only there the length of time it took to smoke a cigarette, and they didn't even charge me to fix it! Very happy, and no more clicky

I have a similar problem on my v70d5 but I would say its more of a knock than a click and its not all the time it doesn't happen if I set off fast.
Does this still sound like the driveshaft bolt?? Thanks |

PLEASE make sure if your doing this yourself you use a torque wrench and tighten to the correct torque. I over did mine and snapped the bolt off! Heavy handed sod! I had to have a new hub fitted

Hi all Got this noise on my manual V70 d5 has started doing this 3k post engine replacement (engine replaced at 177,000 miles) checked the driveshaft bolts these are tight and when removed was replaced with new genuine Volvo bolts and was torqued and torque sealed to highlight any movement these have not moved a bit, I’ve had a quick look underneath when going from 1st to reverse and can see slight movement on the outboard cv, question being could this be worn splines on the hub/ shaft (if so how many have seen this?) or would fitting the XC90 bolts remedy this?
Also are the same age(2004) XC90 driveshaft bolts identical before I get into an Argument with the Parts guy stating i can’t fit XC90 parts to a V70 😂 Thanks in advance |

The XC90 bolts referred to in this old post are these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/MTC-171021-.../dp/B01CGOFX68 . They are different from the standard bolts in that they have a rubber cone on the end which is designed to take any slack out of the driveshaft end float. However, they are not available in this country any longer as Volvo apparantly decided that they carried a risk of trapping water between the driveshaft and the hub and corroding the items together. How real this risk is I don't know. If you want to try these bolts the only option if getting them from overseas.
I know this because I tried them on my car which was clicking on taking up drive. Although they haven't totally cured the problem they have significantly improved it.
