I have seen that issue with my 2002 s60. It is as if the rear of the cover has deformed over time. As for the clip not holding, I replaced all three after the center one cracked. Is the clip damaged?

I had this problem on my petrol V70. I found levering it about with a long screwdriver helped a lot. Took a lot of patience to get it straight.

Hello, Mine too except mine warped in instead of out. I used a long screwdriver as a simple pushing tool such that all 3 "male-female locaters" match in the way they bite. The lid has to fit entirely or the sides of the box can shift out. If you're trying to land the lid of that air cleaner box without first having the large air tube removed you're working against yourself bigtime. If you strike out with this and have to drive the car consider covering the gap with gaffers tape. It's high temperature and will work better than duct tape. Kira

Rubbish design. Never had a car which is so difficult to get the airbox lid back on.

Hello, To LJD: I'd recommend against that because heat is probably why it warped in the first place. I've never been anything buy sorry anytime I've attempted to coax plastic moldings with heat.
To V70RMW: I see what you mean but there are worse out there. What's wild is that the box simply pulls out if it needs to be removed. I think that's a little flaky. What's the problem with 2 or 3 bolts in the bottom of the box? Those plastic "barb prongs" surely will fatigue and break someday. kira |

I use hot tap-water, as I know I am impatient and a hot-air-paint-stripper in my hands is a sure fire way to disaster...

You can see in the attached images the orange air filter showing at the back of the box: And the warp on the rear of the Airbox Lid: |
