I didn't actually try this on my airbox*, but in general I use hot tapwater: most plastic will have no problem up to 60C hot water (most Dutch central heating systems won't be much hotter, British systems may be different). If it doesn't work, you can always try boiling water, but that might cause some plastics to deform permanently.

It did not work to a satisfactory degree on the square plastic in the top of the car.

* My airbox is somewhat crooked too, but I think I got it to close acceptably with the 'long screwdriver' method. I think I did try it on the air-supply before the airbox.

Had this since '07.
Am satisfied that there is a serviceable seal and have ignored the optics of it.
It's the breaky breaky kind of plastic as well.

Thanks i’ll try a mixture of hot tap and kettle then, but not sure how to bend the sucker without asbestos hands?

Thanks, i’ll be careful if I try to bend it then. Or buy another 2nd hand. I’m only concerned about the AirBox seal as people have mentioned holes in pipes as a potential issue. Also I had an independent do a service some 18 months ago and they screwed several things up; this might be one thing I missed when double checking (to the best of my limited ability) what they did,....or didn’t do.

Yo, Balistaff, Some monkey who failed to fully insert the lugs is who warped your air cleaner housing. That malpractice allowed a bunch of dirt into your engine. After you get the lid squarely on, do an oil change.

Disconnect the flexible hose and land the lid with the aid of a long, slender screwdriver. Start with the center one.

Whatever you do, DO NOT rely on the closure clips to align or land the lid.

Your not sitting on an overstuffed suitcase hoping to get it to click with all your muscle.

Those clips are cheaply made. Here they cost $12 before shipping. One car came with only 2 and another exploded in my hand.

In worst case / last resort situations, small "art school" clips bite easily and are available everywhere. That there is a lip on both sides of the box is a Godsend.

Also, with stuff like this, an improvised rubber strap made from a truck inner tube can last you the life of the car.

I have the same warping such as a lot of cars and it seals fine.

Yes, mine seems fine now too. I have bought another air-box from eBay which is not so warped and I might change it in the summer of 2020; if I've nothing else to do (which is unlikely!)

I'm having the same issue on the air box on an XC90.

I've tried levering the tab into the slot but as soon as release the leverage, the tab comes out of the slot.

Is the tab on the lid supposed to latch onto something?

Just re-read my quote. Busier than ever and no time to fit the spare box, but not doing the mileage either as WFH for the past 4 months!

When I do take the Volvo out, no problems what so ever and I put any issues I had down to a battery that was on it's way out.
