I know I can easily turn the fan off, but I don't see why should have to!

Jeesh... I thought I'm the only one wwith such problem. Key position I - turns on radio, dashboard, airbag check, saloon vent, parking lights (when I start the engin, head lights are set to turn on automaticaly) and 12v sockets (cig.lighters). And yes, that is veryannoying...

Just to add to this thread...

If I have the key in position 1 that shouldn’t drain the battery for 30 mins of radio? (T break time!)
I have the PL2 radio with the amp so I’ve never tried, but I have left the ignition on a few times at my mates garage while we were buggering about with fault codes which left me with a flat battery.

Turn the fans off and you won't have an issue.
I regularly use the radio in my work van for a half hour break.

Default Engine off. Radio off. Why?

I just don't get this and it's totally unexpected. My Audi Avant 2003 could be over ridden by one hour periods. The battery on this V70 is a big lump and can surely take an hour's non-charging. Very disappointing.

johnxyz I've been annoyed by this, like you. Position 1, fan turned off, works fine for my ~30 minute lunch break... Early 2007 XC70. But it is an unusual system!

this doesn't answer the 'problem' as such but when I have to sit in the car for a while I just put the mobile in front of the speedo, lower the wheel a bit, put the seat back a little and stick netflix on

yes the screen is a bit piddly and the sound is tinny but it's better than being bored

an internet radio site would work the same I guess
