New tyre time and 4C shock question
I’ve not forgotten my other thread on the intermittent, but increasingly present, engine system service required message and will get the codes read in the next week or so.
However, I checked the tyres on the XC70 (2006 D5) at the weekend and was surprised to find the rears had worn more than the front - which I’d been watching assiduously. Rears were just still legal at 1.7mm evenly across each tyre. Fronts at between 3mm and 4mm even. I wondered if faster wear tyre wear is normal on these? I know the tyres were replaced by my brother and not swapped - unless he replaced the rears before the fronts, which I doubt. The even wear suggest to me that geometry and bushes are probably fine - any thoughts welcome? Anyway 4 Cross Climate going on on Friday. Also, at the last MOT I had an oil mist advisory and wondered how long 4C shocks last. The car has done just over 140k and, according to the web record, had an interesting time with rear shocks at MoT 3 or 4 years ago. Whether that means they were replaced or simply moved to a different test Centre I don’t know. However, 4C rears seem to be hard to come by and I wonder if it’s worth picking a set up for future use? Several of my 4c shocks had misting advisories on MoT's going back several years before I bought the car. By the time I changed them at 10 years old and about 100k miles, one of them had absolutely no damping at all, and two others were almost as bad.
It did take me several months to be able to get replacements as there were none available at that time for my car. The company I bought them from (shocksandmore) was often recommended on here as the place to go, but their website doesn't seem to exist anymore so I guess they've gone.
