Wink Errr.....

Yea...you normally jackup the car to remove the wheel...for cleaning....as the alloys fitted look crap when the rear of the wheel is spoilt by brake dust etc...as the alloys fitted are spoked, its quite easy to see most of the alloy through the spokes, and on a white car if they are dirty it looks rubbish.

Default Dynaudio Sound System

My C30 also has a Dynaudio sound System init - quite impressive...for 1400 quid....not. Sounds good but a few times on starting the car, no sound at all, not even a peep. The car has to be switched of and re started...when I phoned the dealer to ask about this his only answer was "was it working yesterday"...my reply...."I *@*&*ng hope so" its cost 1400 quid. Well I suppose thats the stamp of customer service for you - all faith has been exploded if the car is to be returned for repair.....my good god....tell me of a garage that can still operate & think outside of the box.

That's a known issue with these steroes. You needa software upgrade (the scourge of computers, not of Volvos ) - I had it on my V50 and it solved the issue.

Sounds like you have a bad dealer though... Is there no one else you can take it to?

I'm stunned as I've never known anyone do this - unless the above is a joke

However, if true, then I'd strongly suggest investing in:
  • A proper dolly jack
  • Wheel stands
  • Very good torque wrench

The jack supplied with any car is for very irregular and emergency use only and shouldn't be trusted with regular use as you allude to.

I take all my wheels off for a major clean, seal and re-wax 2-3 times a year. If you don't, dissimilar metals (alloy wheel on steel hub) causes corrosion which bonds the wheel to the hub and you won't be able to remove the wheel to change it when you need to.

...Then you rotate the wheels front to back before they adopt peculiar wear patterns, or you clean them and put them back on. Tyre fitting on alloys is a specialist job, not a DIY job.

Smile Amazed

First I am amazed that the problem with the stereo Is known to Volvo & it is a problem...I had the car into the dealers yesterday and they tell me Volvo know about the problem but do not have a fix for it yet? So my car came home without being fixed.....also the guy who reported back on the alloy wheel situation (sticking to hub) exactly right......the head technician at the dealers informed me that it was best to remove the wheels every few months....wire brush any rust off the hub and lightly coat with copper slip...otherwise you may be looking at buying a new alloy as they get damaged trying to remove them....I told him I would love to but did not have a jack....I have again complained to Volvo.

So far.....customer service at Volvo dealers is pathetic....I was quoted 250 quid for a first service...I told the service manager to stick his head up his *R@"....then the dealers told me they would not put my car on the forecourt if it was not serviced by the dealer....I replied...don't worry pal...u aint getting it and I aint buying another.....then his parting shot was....well another garag would not be able to re set the service light.....Do Volvo's head office know they are employing clowns to run the circus....they do now....cos I just e mailed them again!

!
Very bad advice put copperslip or similar on here and it will act as a grinding paste and react with the alloy and metal hub and you will get excessive wear, seen this loads of times on race cars where you cant afford a wheel to stick. Use vaseline (petroleum jelly) or a good spray white grease which are both inert. You also then wont get the reaction you would get with copperslip (dissimilar metals). I sometimes wonder if some of the dealers actually bother to train their technicians or maybe the trainers themselves have a lot to learn

SteveC30R - I am stuck with the same dealer network as you in the NE. There are threads on this but I am going to get my S40 serviced at a local Ford dealer, £145 compared to £290. All valid and correct for your warranty. No specific reason why Ford other than it is close to me but as there are similarities between the Focus and the Volvo it does make some sense.

There are also threads on here about how to reset the service light so that again is just a con job from the dealer. The dealer is talking b#?*&! and I like you will not be using them. The problem in the NE is that one dealer has the only garages in the region and there is no competition to force them to improve.
