Although the total is a bit drastic , looking down the list of what's been done and thinking of the cost of parts and materials and the time involved I think you've done well.
The repair bill is probably more than the book value of the car but I think that's a reflection on the state of the market rather than the cars real worth.
I hope you get many more miles out of the motor, here's to the next 100k

I guess you could look at it that you've paid under £3000 for a well sorted car with loads of life and mileage left...

Interesting that they mention "handbrake pads and freeplay" I wonder if they mean the unsettling lurch you get when the handbrake engages, I hate that feeling! Does anyone know if new pads will cure/lessen it?

Having replaced my pads twice already, and adjusting everything possible within tolerances, i can confirm that the "crap your pants" roll back when applying the handbrake on even the slightest hill is a "keep you awake" feature. A feature designed by volvo's safety teams in the deep mountains of sweden that ensures alertness at all times at the wheel and it is a feature that cannot be removed.

If it could be fixed no doubt it would require several software updates and an airbag reset lol

At least I now know that this 'feature' is not unique to mine. At times, it seems that it is only the mechanical 'Park' lock in the slushbox that holds the car on a hill. A full rear brake stripdown was on my 'todo' list for the near future but maybe it won't stop this.

At the rate that electronics and its unique issues is creeping ever more deeply into modern cars, the old 1990's 'joke' Conference exchange between Bill Gates and GM looks ever more likely to come true regarding the GM reply , at least some of the points:

I can't understand why they say parking brake pads?
They aren't pads but shoes.

Bloody hell! Two years ago I paid under a grand for a slightly newer S60. It needed a pair of tyres...
You were done..
