09 V70 2.0D R-Design TYRES!
Hi everyone.
I have been a lurking here for years, but never had any issues with my Volvo's until I noticed my R-Design love for eating her front tyres. Ok, I live in the Highlands, so fairly heavy breaking ( Sheep/Deer/Tourists looking at sheep/deer) but I am lucky if I am getting 7000 from my fronts, I have got Dunlop Sport Max RT's all round and they are just being destroyed. Anyone else got any recommendations for my tyre eating beast? I am looking for tyres that can handle wet roads. Thanks everyone. |

I have the same car except a D5 engine, and in the mountains of the South East of England I'm getting around 18k miles out the front set, and both Pirellis and Michelins lasted the same mileage.
You need to stop wearing your lead boots lol. |

Hmm, I was thinking of swapping to Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres, might have to reconsider. I'm currently using Kumho KU39's and they seem fine, though most of my mileage is in motorways. I sense whatever tyre you fit will wear quickly due to your driving style/enviornment!

I've got Goodyear Efficient Grips on mine and had them on my previous two cars. Fantastic in the wet and extremely economical too. Got over 10k out of every set I've had, regardless of power available at the front wheels. Plus Kwik-Fit did a cash back offer with free mobile fitting on them at the backend of last year so they were cheaper from there than blackcircles.com or my local tyre man.

When I picked up my car last April it had Continentals front Yokohama's on the rear. the same tyres are still on the car, never rotated them & over 21k miles later the fronts still have life in them. The Yokohamas on the rear look almost 'as new' still.
I was also considering the quiet, grippy, fuel efficient Dunlop's - but if they don't last I think I may stick with the Conti's |

V70 2.4d
Our car before the xc70 was a 2008 V70 2.4d se and that had continentals on.
23,000 on the fronts, tramlining became really bad before they were changed. Brian. Last edited by br1anuk; Jan 13th, 2015 at 18:59. Reason: Spelling |

There is no perfect tyre. they all sacrifice here and there in terms of dry grip, wet grip, wear and comfort.
Dunlop Sport Max RTs are more for sporty driving, definitely not suitable for an overall heavy beast like the V70. I've got a 2009 V70 2.0d as well and I had Uniroyal Rainsports fitted on the front. I was skeptical in the beginning but I they offered a lot of (wet) grip and they lasted 43k km (26k miles) from new to about 2 mm about . This was mainly highway driving. Everyone will have a different view about tyre experience but as a general tip, you should avoid performance tyres because they usually sacrifice wear for performance. |

I have found Kumho Ecsta Le Sport KU39's to be quite a good all rounder.
