Woefully over optimistic price.

It will be interesting to see how it turns out!😀
I just had a look at eBay and could see it didn't get any bids at £4,000 - so one may conclude a 1986 740 saloon in okay (but not very good) condition and 120,000 miles is worth rather less than 4 grand. That is all I wanted to find out.

I wasn't interested in this particular motor car - I won't be looking for one until the autumn (depending on how quickly I get another garage built and whether I buy something else (RR/Bentley/Jaguar... ) instead.

My guess is that £2,500 should be plenty to buy a non-historic Volvo like this one.

Alan

Now for something with true regal style.
https://carsonline.bonhams.com/en/li...ff99?open=true

I love the handbag tray and the switch on the back of the front seat to, presumably, adjust the picnic tray so that one can sip one's Dubonnet in comfort. I would not be able to resist playing with the blue lights, although totally illegal on the highway, but great fun nevertheless.

I can imagine cruising along the front in Skegvegas in this. Anyone?

Perhaps someone showed up with £2,500 in folding money? Maybe the seller pulled it just before the end to save face?

The sunroof is shot, OSR light and Nivos - same. As for the clutch! Needs replacing!

I'd guess a minimum of about 2 grands worth of parts just to get it near the standard he thinks it is!

I'd suggest a link between the Nivos, clutch and the towbar, suggesting it's been used for a lot of towing by a mechanically unsympathetic driver.

It also apparently needs recommissioning suggesting a lack of current MoT making it even more highly priced..............

I hope you are right as I bought this car and picked it up yesterday! Drove very nicely from Yorkshire back to Cumbria. I have just joined the Forum and laughed when I read the discussions about the car!

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the forum!

Re the speedo fault, as the car has ABS, does the ABS light come on during driving? If so, the chancs are it's the rear speed sensor, located in the diff. If not, it's likely to be the instrument, probably an electrical fault (solder joints fail on the thin plastic PCB on the back of the instrument cluster) but would need a couple more details (eg does it count the miles, display speed or what) to give you a more definite pointer.
