Coolant warning light came on close to home, temperature didn’t rise so finished my journey. Larger hose from coolant header tank had sprung a leak, so replaced the hose (had one waiting to go on as other end had compressed and the seal was poor).

Yes, the drivers side is a nightmare. Indicator out, headlight out, wiper trim piece out, slam panel loosened and tiled forward will just about give enough room but oh so fiddly.

Are you going to be replacing the motors or just removing and leaving? If the latter, could I rather cheekily inquire about the wiper arms? The caps on mine have cracked and are detached.

One of the caps was missing and the other was broken unfortunately, and one of the washer jets was also missing. I cut the spindle off the drivers side to aid removal, rather than messing about with the slam panel. The motor was problematic anyway so I didn't mind butchering it. You're welcome to the arms and motors if you think you might get some use out of them.

Default Driver's side headlamp wiper motor

You need to take off the front bumper really as the motor won't get through the gap because of the plastic covering of the wiring to the ECU. Haynes says loosen the ECU box, but access to the bolts is almost impossible. Once the bumper is off it's easy, but no need for this on the near side as the motor and its spindle can be slid through the gap.

Default 34 mpg on journey to Scotland 1999 V70 T5

I have had the best mpg ever travelling to Scotland on Saturday...34.4 mpg on Shell V power 99 octane fuel. usually only 26-28 mpg in Kent. Most of the way on cruise control 69mph.

Default Alternator change

Car slowly discharging battery did parasitic test checked output under load about 13,v had done all the usual corrosion checks and Volt drop checks so off comes alternator and while at it belt tensioner put airline with blow gun against pulley and despite no real play as soon as spun noise like hamster in wheel new one from gsf with the spline tensioner much easier to get belt on than the bolt type trip to breakers and after bench test all back together another odd noise gone as well, next a safari into the rear brakes

Replaced the coolant using genuine Volvo coolant, though the original coolant still passed the refractometer and disc type glycol test. Not bad for 23 year old coolant

Got an SC-805 and a remote fob from a 960 in the breaker's yard.

It's always worried me that I didn't have a fob for this car, or the last, so it's a relief to get one.
