240 having starting/idling problems
Hi all! My 1982 240 is having some problems. Whenever the engine is cold, it won't start right away, and after it does start, it won't idle. Once it warms up, it runs fine, but if it sits for even an hour, it won't start or idle again! I replaced the in-tank fuel pump last summer and the main pump a few weeks ago. Does anyone have experience with the cold start valve? I thought that valve would put extra fuel in the mixture during cold weather, but does it also operate when the temperature is moderate? I thought maybe either the valve or the cold start sensor/switch is bad. Any thoughts on my problem? Thanks!!

RE: 240 having starting/idling problems
Does your 240 have fuel injection? If so have you checked the fuel pump relay? All the best, Peter |

RE: 240 having starting/idling problems
I had a similar problem with my 1982 244GLT and finally .....found that the fuel pressure regulator was faulty. The garage could not fix the problem and I found it by swapping components from my wife's 244 with mine, so if you have a spare 244 ? Fuel pressure can be checked if you have access the the right equipment. If you need a pressure regulator buy directly from a Bosch agent, a lot cheaper than from a Volvo Dealer (at least it was the case here in NZ)
