Default noisy engine

Hi
Just got myself a lovely 244 GLE 87 (B230k)only 139,000 mls and looking very good.
Now I knew the engine would be noiser than my 850 but it seemed as if the fan was on all the time.
On starting today the noise had stopped but returned as I re started the engine - so it does seem as if the fan is sticking on all the time( also noticed temp gauge not getting half way - assume it should )

Is there a fix for the cooling fan running all the time ?

Should the temp gauge run at half way ?

Cheers !

Ady

Yes, the thermo-fan is extremely noisy. Characteristic Volvo noise of whooshing air. Maybe yours has failed so is locked all the time.
Rather than buying a new one, why not fit an electric fan? You will be amazed at the silence! I found the old fan had quite a drag on the engine- it seems to rev more freely without it, and gives about 2 more mpg. The electric fan rarely cuts in, even in this hot weather, unless climbing a hill or going slowly.
I'd check the engine temperature - worth putting in a new sender so you know what the gauge is saying is right.
