Default brake pedal

any one know if i can adjust the brake pedal ? reason i'm asking is after i've done me disc's and pad's there is still play on the pedal. i thought that might of gone when i did the brake's.fluid level is spot on and they were bled after i finished fitting the pad's and disc's ? it's just the pedal it seem's to be a bit rattley if you know what i mean,it's loose for the first inch or so then the braking starts.let me know if that dosnt make sense

Did this happen immediately after you changed them? Is it possible that the discs/pads are somewhat glazed, and not operating at maximum efficiency, or does the pedal need more force to get braking action?

If not the above, then it should only be possible if the new pad/disc combination, is thinner than what came off, and the initial pedal movement, is to get the caliper to push the pad onto the disc. To the best of my knowledge, there is no adjust as regards the pedal, though I await to be proven wrong!!!

Let them bed in, gentle braking for a few weeks then re bleed just in case. Then see what it's like.

I think vadis mentions that normal brake operation has about an inch of 'soft' on the pedal before it firms up?

i get the same sort of feeling underfoot on my pedal, just a little bit of travel then all of sudden braking snaps in, my brakes have been pressure bled just in case, and i changed the brake fluid for dot4, so what you are describing seems fine to me.

The retaining pin/bolt that goes between the pedal and the cylinder arm could be worn, hence the excessive play in the pedal...?

That makes more sense - I've always found the S40's that I have driven to be like that - it's a strange sensation that I guess you just get used to... Mate who was used to a different motor (a Landrover admittedy) that bought one, was convinced the brakes had air in them and that they were spongey. They were fine!
