Default Maybe?

The bad running before stopping sounds more like electrics to me - fuel would more likely produce a more gradual loss of power or straight on or off like the fuel pump relay does.

I'm going to have a look at the earth and the presence or otherwise of thermal paste on the coil probably today, and I might intend to do the same for the power stage for the injectors - is this a picture of it?

Default Curiouser and curiouser.

Well the “new” coil and ECU have not gone in yet, and there was no bad running until last week when I had nasty symptoms - first ok at tick over and until there was boost, but coming close to dying when boost showed. Then coming close to dying altogether unless I closed the throttle and opened it not too hard. Struggled to get 10 miles home.

So I took all the intake hoses off - and lo! and behold! the bolts that hold the dump valve together were close to falling out, there was a quarter inch gap where the gasket should be and some straggly remnants of gasket were flapping about. I didn’t have the right gasket to hand so there was some desultory cleaning and then a very old tube of Instant Gasket was pressed into service - since when she has run perfectly, although still producing the slightly bumbly tick over that she has always had.

Now I have to wait for a REALLY hot day to see if the first fault mentioned on this thread is fixed.

Default Cured?

Well well - the intermittent dying on hot days turned out NOT to be the injector amplifier but exhaust manifold gasket and HT leads. Knock me down with a feather!
