Removing Rear Light Cluster V70

I have an intermittent problem with the rear side light on my V70 and I think the best way to resolve it is to remove the cluster for further examination. Is this an easy or hard job, please and basic instructions would help.

if its on one of the upper light clusters....easy....if its a lower....harder.. as you have to remove the upper section first....to unlock the lower section.

Firstly, prise out the rear speak grille. then you will see a red coloured tab, grab it with some pliers and pull ! this will then release the speaker on its mount, so unhook it out and leave dangling on the wires. then you can look in and see the 10mm nuts which hold the upper lamp assy in. if you put some blue tack in the socket, it both helps you remove the nut and retain it, and makes it easier to reinstall when you put it back.

but check the master earths out first, near to the rear fuse panel, might seem clean but undo the nut, separate the cable earth tabs and clean with abrasive, then resecure and try first.

no, not a lot of room inside these panels, even I could do with hands half the size of mine to squeeze in. I can remove the bulb sockets, but putting back I end up resorting to removing the lamp assy to get the tabs back inline, LOL.

You need to remove a lot of trim around the light unfortunately, or at least that's what I remember. One of the pieces you have to be quite brave about - the long vertical part by the lights.

Not directly related to the job in hand but a suggestion.

While you've got the light clusters out use some Typex or white paint to put a mark against the lock and unlock positions on the top of each bulb holder.

I find it easier to grip the bulb holders with pliers when changing bulbs and with a mark that's visible it saves me loads of time when try to get the holders back in.

An excellent suggestion about the use of typex - thanks.

Re the lamp holders, I've found if you use a socket on a short extender bar it is easier than using pliers as you can turn the bar more easily without dropping the holder. I think it is a 19mm that grips the holder - the same trick works with the front indicator lamp holders.
