Drop links is easy - i've changed all mine on several cars - no alignment changes needed. I was always a Lemförder man, until I had a brand new one fail on installation to my V40 recently. Instead I have swapped to Meyle ones on that car - much more sturdy and I even found some in "cool" black... not that you can see them with the wheels on!

I also changed my rear anti roll bar to a thicker Hardrace one - definitely an improvement,. It comes with PU bushes in the "D" clamps (plus I fitted Powerflex bushes to the top of the drop links) and I haven't noticed any harsher ride. Definitely a great option - if you can find them at a good price as I managed to.

That's interesting.

Where did you find the thicker anti roll bar? Do you have a item number? Tbh, I would prefer a more stable rear suspension set up because I have noticed its abit unstable with the caravan on the back

What's the mileage on the car? Has it had rear shocks before?

Worn shocks can cause that wandering sensation.

If the shocks have never been replaced before, its highly likely that they're well worn at that mileage.

If you have no paperwork that shows replacement and the ones underneath look old and rusty, they probably haven't been done.

Being an XC70, your car may have Nivomat rear suspension. You can tell if you have those as the shock on the rear will have rubber piece on it, whereas a standard shock doesn't have the rubber. If unsure, take a picture of your rear shocks and upload it here.

Nivomat's aren't cheap though, sadly. Last I heard they were £500 each from a dealer. Ordinary rear shocks (not nivomat) are maybe £80-£100 each for brands like Bilstein and Sachs. They're very easy to replace and can transform the ride/handling of the car.

I imagine front ones will be worn too at that mileage.

I tow our caravan a lot and it's completely stable - I forget it's there sometimes!.

The anti roll bar I fitted was on sale (£100 off!) on Ebay. No longer available from that seller. There's a front one still for sale, but no offer - yet! You can which bar you need by going to hardraceshop.com and searching by Make, then scroll through until you find descriptor as below. 5% off at the moment!

If you click on "Post Reply" at the bottom of the thread, then you get the option to "manage Attachments". However, I find it easier to post a quick reply (which is text only), then, once posted, click on "edit text" at the bottom of your quote. When this window opens it contains the "Manage Attachments" option. Click on that, then go to the box that appears to the top left. Click on "Choose File" and select the image you want to add. You can add 5 in one go, however I find it more reliable to add one, then click Upload, then choose another file and Upload again - and so on. Click "Close this window" when you are done. Then "Submit Reply"...

Hope this helps
