I'd forgotten how expensive insurance is in the UK. 350 quid is about 700 South Sea Pesos (NZD).

Moomin's insurance, comparable with yours, is about $30/month iirc. This includes windscreen cover (a free one each year if required) breakdown cover (RTH or to suitable repair facility) agreed value @ $4,000, and 3rd party liability.

Definitely a good idea to have a look round David. I've just renewed the insurance on the Sterling, £160 all in, down £16 from last year. That includes an arrangement fee of about £50 on mine (can't remember the exact figure but can find it if important) and generally the Volvo is about £90-100 more than the Rover but again, that was cheaper at the last renewal back in August.

As others have mentioned, you can also shop around for breakdown cover, many breakdown covers also have Legal Cover built into the premium so that another thing you can lose from the figure you get quoted - but double-check the breakdown policy has Legal Cover, i'm fairly sure the RAC did but i cancelled with them a few years ago so things may have changed.

Car insurance is a continuing farce.

I have fully comp/legal/full breakdown etc with Sainsbury's Bank (they came in with an exceptionally competitive quote 3 years ago) on the '90 745.

After the 1st year it went up £10 to £259. I renewed. This March it had jumped nearly 15% to £298.

I spoke to them after wasting time sniffing around for alternatives which I did not mention to them. Within 4 minutes they reduced the quote by £30 to £268. An increase of £9 or 3.5%. Which in my view was reasonable. I paid there and then.

Car insurance never changes!!

A bloody rip off, understandable when you first take out a policy, the fee is for setting up your policy, but when you simply renew each year there's nothing for them to set up, just a click of a button, hence the rip off,
