Watch the bulb as you do it. If it comes on as soon as you turn to KP2, let us know. If it takes a couple of seconds before lighting, let us know that as well - don't do anything else! As for white being ground, none of them are - at the moment, it's just a bulb connector. Green is the common connection, blue opposite it and also vertical is the dipped beam filament. White is going to the horizontal terminal and is the full beam terminal. About the use of the headlamp socket in a system On a positive switched system (like your Volvo) the green will be connected to earth or 0V. On a negative switched system, like many Japanese cars the green will be the +12V feed and then the other terminals will be switched to negative or earth - earth switched system.

^pretty late at night for an old guy isn't it Dave?
Beautiful autumn day here in Isolation City, NZ. Commenting here between building a new stairwell and drinking coffee. OK, mainly drinking coffee. |

Been an awesome (23C) spring day here, been getting on doing a few bits of hardwiring for my dashcam in my other beast, hiding the rear camera cables above the headlining etc. Time consuming because the headlining doesn't just drop after removing trim like it does on the Volvo and the channels in the roof where i can run the cables are pretty narrow so it's been fiddly to say the least.. Also many coffee breaks were necessary, at least two buckets of caffeine each time as well.

Thanks all, I have ordered the bulb holder, annoying that you can’t just pop to the shop! I will make up the bulb tester as soon as it comes, plug it in and let you know whether it takes a second or two, or not. Realistically, it will probably be Monday Or Tuesday when that comes, so I will be in touch. Thanks again, James

In fairness it's not the sort of thing you'd normally find on the shelves of the average carparts shop so you'd have to order it anyway. Do you have a spare H4 bulb to fit in it that works?

Yes I have a spare bulb although not tungsten the only one I could see on eBay was a 100w one! So I’ll put it all together and let you know when I’ve done it. Have a nice Easter weekend all! Cheers!

Just use one filament in it then, not both as Ash suggested for the tungsten one. It will still restrict the current to about 8A so shouldn't increase the damage.

also, if you can fashion a heat shield of some sort that would be good. A halogen bulb creates a LOT of heat and will happily melt its way into any plastic, carpet, seat cover, finger...
