Default Starter motor bolts?

Hi Folks

Anyone know what size the starter motor bolts are for the 2.3l petrol engine. Upgrading my B20 starter with the more powerful starter. Are the bolts m10 x 100mm?

If memory serves, the 2.0 and 2.3 bolts are the same so just reuse your bolts from the 2.0 starter. Something in the back of my mind also says it was the automatics that got the uprated starter regardless of capacity of the engine. In other words, a 2.3 manual and a 2.0 manual would likely have the same starter and likewise for the autos.

I'm not able to check just now but it would be wise to check they fit in the same mounting holes, i know some manufacturers use different mountings for the starters on autos.

I can check that out Dave in the next few days.

Manual 96 940 B230FK starter part number 1 005 821 451

I will check what the 98 B230FK auto part number is when the engine comes out.

That'll be useful Luke, thanks! Long time since i was involved on a daily basis with starters and alternators but fairly sure it's something along the lines of what i said.

Actually, save you a bit of bother Luke, look at the vehicle appliations list on it :

You can check the others by going back through the menu as well.

The B20 has two 7/16 bolts with nuts holding it, so neither holes in the flange of my old starter are threaded which the 2.3l is.

The later 740 etc starter is smaller and more powerful than the B20 starter but they do fit, only the flange thickness and bolts are different.

Aaaaah, my misunderstanding then! I thought you were fitting a B230 starter to a B200, i saw the B20 reference and kind of assumed it was a typo and should have been B200 instead!

That said, 7/16" is quite a thread size - just over 11mm thread diameter. I would think 3/8" would be more like it, especially if the heads are 1/2" AF?
