Not sure how well it would run if it was out one tooth.
Best bet is not to worry, if its slipped, or if it was out when it was done doesn't matter, the garage who did the cam belt should fix it and cover costs. If its been checked and its out, it need to be done.
Hopefully that will fix your problem.

So if they had it stripped far enough take the picture, why didn't they put it right, it would only have been an extra 30mins of work?

Default Ok so I have been to the garage and it's really bad news -

Ok so I have been to the garage and it's really bad news -

The engine is blown beyond repair! (see photo below)

I have been quoted about £7500 for a replacement engine (without labour as the garage are happy to do it for nothing).

There is a massive crack in the bottom part of the engine and Volvo do not sell this part seperately so that rules out a rebuild!

Not Happy!

So it did slip then. The garage who did the cam belt should pay. Failing that your best bet is a second hand engine (should be able to get a good one for less than £1500, loads on Ebay).
Sorry it turned out bad. I would make sure you try your best to get the garage to cover as much of the expense as you can (I assume they didn't change the tensioner?).

The garage are saying that the engine must have had some previous work done on it before I bought it to cause the damage. I am not too sure.

They are saying that he cam belt was fine and didn't cause this damage. I don't know enough to argue so what sould I do?

I have seen the engines on eBay. Do you think this is a wise move?

It's either that or sell the car for scrap :-(

Sorry to hear of your misfortune.
What do volvo charge for installation of a new cam belt with tensioners and new aux belt with tensioners?.

I would be calling the scrappies and asking if they have any lower engines from D5's . This would include S60, V70, S80 and XC70 and XC90. The block is the same.
