This might sound awful.... But is there a temporary or bodging guide of sorts? I have given my car some TLC and oil level is stable, and no more leaks. I will have a week off in june to do this properly, but the car will have nearly a thousand miles of mixed driving before then.

Basically looking at trying a PTC Nipple clean, and maybe (depending upon time) an oil trap clean or replacement. Realistically I can't afford the parts or time before then, but I would like to do what I can to manage things on the meantime.

I'm not sure there is a quick fix. I would suggest easy driving for the next 1000 miles. Worst case, the pressure will cause some of the seals to blow - the two exhaust cam seals seam to be the most likely candidates. Keep your eye on dripping from either side of the head which would indicate that you've got another job lined up.

Point 9 of the guide with the solid vacuum pipe. Is it a case of just pulling it out or do you need to squeeze the plastic collar at all. Just don't want to break it by pulling on it.

Cheers dean

Ps. Done it!

If you are referring to the rigid plastic vacuum hose I too had some difficulty with that one. Do not break it it is an expensive pipe to replace. That is the infamous brake vacuum hose that has a check valve attached to it that often fails. When it does your brakes will feel solid and won't work well until the car is warmed up. I digress. There is a metal sleeve at the end of the pipe where it meets the manifold. The mental sleeve is an integral part of the pipe. I think the next piece is the red plastic tab. Push that piece downwards with a flathead screwdriver while pulling the pipe upwards. That should do it.

Cheers for that but I managed it in the end. The one thing I haven't managed is the most left bottom manifold bolt and that is all that's holding it in. Have LPG fitted is making it a little more work but hey I'll get there.

That bottom left manifold bolt is a pain. I probably dropped 4 10mm sockets into the abyss doing it. Try removing the thermostat housing cover, pretty sure that's what I did?

I have and still cannot hit it square enough to give it a turn 😞.

What size socket set are you using? I found a 3/8th set made life much easier than using my 1/2" set.

All of the Dropbox links for the PDF file are broken again. Could someone post it again? I know this thread is super old, but I don't have enough posts to send a message to Phil for a new link.

Thanks!!
