Post Heater Damper Failure

Hi,

Just a note to share a recent fault found on my wife's S40 (2.0 D SE), we were experiencing problems with the dampers on the heating system not directing the air flow as required. Up until November (when it started getting really cold) we had only used the windscreen demist button and the climate control auto function. However when it did become cold we noticed the foot well feed wasn't blowing any air - hence cold feet.

After taking this to the Volvo garage twice (first time I was told all was well) they discovered that one of the three motors that drive the dampers had failed. Speaking casually with the garage chief mechanic, it appears that this is a common fault on cars produced in the last year or so (not exact dates given). They are going to change out all three motors when at the same time, as the job takes about 8 to 10 hours to complete, and there is a chance the other two could fail (i.e. bad batch). As this car is still under warranty I will be spared the costs (especially 8 hrs labour), but I would strongly urge all to check that their dampers are fully working before warranty runs out.
