Nothing new about the "new" Volvo 8 speed box. It wasn't designed by or for Volvo. It's been used by Lexus since 2012.

Sorry, I wasn't suggesting that it was developed solely for Volvo, what I meant was that it was new in comparison to the 6 speed unit used in the D5.

It is also used by BMW/MINI, I believe.

The 6 speed in the D5 has to be the most outdated gearbox used by a European or Japanese car manufacturer. I could not believe how bad it was.

The 8 speed seems like a modern, generic "slush box" you find in most autos these days.

The only "auto" I can live with is a dual clutch transmission. These 8 and 9 speed boxes change gear too much and seem "confused".
