Never thought I'd say this.

This forum is rapidly turning into a slanging match and is no longer one I wish to participate in - little or no control has been exercised and allegations have been allowed to flourish.

This is in no way a defence of what Dai may or may not have done but a comment on what was once a community of car enthusiasts.

I'm gone also - end of!

Mollusk.

Yes, I understand that in the mechanics and fitters trade, time means money and there isn't a lot of time to fully test and inspect your work. But in this case, where the customer didn't exactly live around the corner, a special effort should have been made.

From the sounds of it, it also sound as if the engine itself was probably not the most ideal candidate for fitting LPG. In fact if the engine was in as bad a condition as has been stated earlier, I'm sure most fitters would have turned the job down until, at the very least, a good service was undertaken. Ignition problems on an already worn engine will be exacerbated while running on LPG (a lesson I learned the hard way on a Vauxhall astra). The "can do" attitude probably got the better of common sense here and the job went ahead anyway.

In all it does sound like a calamity of errors on all sides that should have been nipped in the bud well before it made it to the forums. The engine itself should have been serviced and any initial problems fixed. The mechanic should have recognized this and refused the job, or performed the service. The work should have been fully checked and tested before releasing the car to the customer, with a certificate from an authorised body stating the installation was safe and correctly fitted. The customer should have ensured that he test drove the car before returning home, ensuring that he had in his possession a receipt for the work carried out and the certification for the install.

Unfortunately it sounds as if none of the above happened, and we arrived here. And we are left with one very unhappy customer, left out of pocket and a very good trader and advice giver leaving us because he had his name slandered with a variety of sensationalist posts after a rare lapse and mistake.

Could things have been handled better? Yes. Was there any need for this to have escalated as far as it did? No.

Mistakes happen, errors occur & I hope these two perfectly reasonable people can come to an agreement that suits both parties.

Mike

1 - I left the car with Dai for NINE days when I returned it to him in December. I was assured that would be ample time for the bugs to be ironed out. In no way did I expect the car to come back to me in worse condition.

2 - I spent £1000 with Dai on various mechanical issues in September, before the installation took place.

3 - "a rare lapse and mistake"? I've since been informed that Dai has been taken to small claims court and lost (this month!), with another LPG installation.

Am I angry over this? Yes, and I believe I have every right to be.

Let me just also add this. Dai has took it upon himself to state that in his opinion the suggested LPG Installers in Ireland aren't any good (I'm not even getting into the awful irony in that statement), and that he will not put this matter right financially should I take it to a specialist over here. I obviously have no other choice but to take legal advice on this, and head in the direction of the small claims court. It appears the work done came with zero guarantee, which I find astonishing.

I assume you're related to Dai in this, being that you're in Anglesey?
Ok, well either way I've no choice but to take legal advice. Is that not fair?

He's changed his mind about letting me take it to an installer here, hence my frustration. I'd rather talk to Dai than his girlfriend on this matter, no disrespect.

Adding this topic on this forum a) has been a way of attaining information with regards to how to fix this mess, and b) a way for others to contact me regarding problems they've had with their LPG installations.
I'm sure if you were up to £2000 in the minus, you'd feel exactly the same.
I've thrown no insults to anyone, so I don't appreciate your blurring of the thread.

It is way beyond slurred before I got involved and dont appreciate the insult of dai losing a court case when you dont know the full story and been misinformation about it. It would be all over this forum if he had lost due to people wanting to gloat.... I understand your frustration but understand mine too. Do this between you and dai and we will somehow fix it... come back to this thread when there is a resolution... there is no need for everyone to get involved....... this all I ask it is not unreasonable.

Gloat andjustice are two seperate things. This episode has unfortunately made the victim, feel like the perpetrator. Bananaking has not 'got every one involved' he has simply started a thread asking for advice. It took a good, few pages to get it as I stupidly took thread off-course and started on Dai.

This is my fault, nobody elses.

The fact Dai has been questioned about his work in a previous thread I was involved with. One which questions were avoided, excusus were made and the op was made to feel like the guilty party, stupidly drove me to continuingthe argument on Bananking's thread.

This was clearly a mistake.

Dai did offer to pay for the cost of Bananking getting this installation sorted at an aproved fitters. This has been arranged I believe. Can you clarify with Dai that he is willing to pay for rectification please? It will save further travel and expense and seems a decent resolution to this episode all-round. Bananaking is understandably upset as he feels Dai is now refusing to pay. To be fair, he hasn't said this, so if you could please find out and confirm. If the jobs almost done, then hopefully it won't cost much to sort.
