Yes, that hose is decidedly old school. It's just cotton braiding over the rubber hose. First failure is usually around the connection to the fuel pump. You will see it weeping, with a drip hidden underneath. On removal you'll then see cracks in the rubber. Been there, had that. Use only rubber hose marked as safe for ethanol. Check they are made to DIN 73379-1, will be printed on the hose. Avoid cheap stuff off the Bay as it's often not what it seems. Lots of fake stuff that isn't up to spec. Make sure you use the right size for both sides of the pump.
