I kinda miss the dipstick and temp gauge, but I guess the reality is do we actually need these in today's modern cars?

I love the touch screen controls, and have gotten used to the lack of physical keys.

For me, I prefer it that way after having got used to it, feels so much more modern.

So many people I know marvel at the car, not only the exterior, but also the interior and controls....

Shame voice can't control Spotify.

You can check the oil guage via the Sensus menu screen.

Default Sun glasses holder

Hi Kenp8257,

Thanks for the heads up.

I already knew about the sun glasses holder but not the offer, but feel this should be included as standard on a car of this value.

I purchased one from Ebay for a previous car I owned (Rover 75), and this had come from a Ford Focus. So if a Focus has one why not a Volvo V60

Cheers, Pete.

Default Dipstick

Hi MCV60,

Yes there is an electronic "dipstick", but it will not tell you the colour of the oil, or it's smell.

Both things very useful when keeping an eye on the condition of the oil and the engine.

Pete.

Those days are long gone.. nothing you can tell from oil color/smell on modern turbocharged engines. A new oil will turn near-black as soon as you start the engine- so a new/0 km oil looks pretty much the same as 10000 km oil.. Without a proper lab analysis- dipstick or no dipstick- you will know nothing of the condition of the oil..

That said- I do feel nostalgic about dipsticks..

There's something very satisfying about checking your oil on a dipstick before a long journal and concluding that all is well! That and washer fluid/coolant.

Its not just a Volvo thing, its now becoming the norm, lots of makes of modern new engines will not have dipsticks these days.

Hi Haldex, just been out and checked the oil on the dipstick of Honda Accord 2.2 idtec estate car.

The oil was last changed 3,222 miles ago and at the moment is a light grey colour, not black. So what you say is not correct and further more, how do you know its black if you haven't got a dipstick.

With regards to the smell of the oil, if it smells of diesel then there is a problem with DPF regeneration and diesel is finding its way into the sump. A topic which has been discused a great deal with previous Volvo models on this forum, so another reason to have a dipstick.

By the way I change the oil every 7,500 in the Honda, and its mileage now stands at 133,389.

Pete.
