Trailer module software activation
Hi,
I'm having my towbar and genuine Volvo electrics and trailer module installed this week. I ordered the wiring and module from FRF and they tell me it will need to go to a dealer or someone with the software to have it activated. How much should I be paying for this? Hatfields in bury have just quoted £93 plus vat which seems a lot. Bryn Volvo specialists in Wigan say they can do it but they still have to buy the software from Volvo. They couldn't give me an exact price but it was around £70 So I'm booked in there for now. Any thoughts? Steff |

I'm not 100% sure of this but I think you don't need to get the "software activated". I think the lights on the trailer/caravan will work, as plug and play.
What 100% won't work without activation is the cars rear foglights being switched off when towing..... but for £n ....you might be able to live with that. Above is certainly the case with P2 V70's. hence unsure about 07on. Cheers Bob |

I negotiated to have it done as part of a main dealer service. Cancels the reversing sensors when hitched up, but I believe it also includes anti-sway software linked to the abs. So well worth it.

That is a good point because the car is already connected and the 5 minutes or so it takes can easily be absorbed by them .

Ok thanks. Perhaps it's not too far off the mark. Keen to give Bryn a go as I might use them when out of service plan anyway.
Definitely wanted the proper module. On my old v60 it did all of the above but also stuff like deactivating the stop start. |

I had mine done and was about 70. Roughly 50/50 software and labour. Your electrics will do nothing without the software installation.

Hi all
Can anyone give me the part number for this software upgrade? I'm in the same situation. Thanks. |

Hi there,
Just noticed your ocation. My car is going to Bryn Volvo nr wigan tomorrow. So can ask for the part number then. As stated by XC70virgin above, mine is doing pretty much nothing at the moment. So hoping the software sorts it all tomorrow. |

For info, all sorted and tested at Bryn Motor company in Wigan, with the towbar fitted by North West towbars in Stockport.
The Part no. is 30744326 and is £17.44. Volvo refer to it as 'Towing hook 13-pol app. (SW)' The expense is because most places seem to charge an hours labour for it so all in it's still the best part of £90! Anyway, nice to know it has the proper electrics designed for the car. I combined this with the Westfalia detachable swan neck which is, in my opinion, a better mechanism than the Brink and almost impossible to see once detached. What I hadn't realised, until I spoke with North West Towbars, is that it is designed so that the crash/bumper bar can be refitted over the top, as per the Volvo/Brink bar, it's just that most fitters don't bother. |
