Default Fitting an Overdrive

Help wanted !

My 122 has the standard 4 speed box. Is it preferable to fit an overdrive unit to it or better to source another box with overdrive already fitted? In either case where will I obtain the parts?
Thanks

If you want to buy a box and o/drive, you could try eBay, VOC sales & wanted or Tony Barratt.

If you are converting from 4-speed to o/drive you will have to make sure that you get hold of the shorter prop shaft. Apart from a little bit of wiring I do not think that there is much complication.

The standard M40 cannot be fitted with an OD without major work. The work will include finding the parts which are already in a standard M41 box so the usual route is to find an M41 with OD, complete as one unit.

If possible get one that has been overhauled by a known restorer, rather than try to save by getting an Ebay bargain, "running when removed". Overdrives are great, but obviously not when they don't work.

Hi Mike,

I am breaking my 4 door Amazon saloon with overdrive.
You could have all the bits for the conversion. However, as previously suggested on this post they would be sold 'as is' and you would be advised to have them checked out. The price would reflect this.
The car has to go by next week so you'd need to let me know soon.
