Thanks. It wasn’t completely flat just not enough to turn the engine. I charged it for 6 hours and it started. Will charge it again for longer when I get chance in next few days.

Thats good , leave it on charge for as long as possible 24 hours or 48 if you can manage it . The first 80% is fairly fast but the last 20% takes a great deal longer on these modern batteries .

Quick Q if I want to put it onto a trickle charge do I need to disconnect the battery from the car ?

Cars moaning from time to time about low charge, I do try to give it 20ish mile run at weekends by taking a roundabout rote to the shops.

no need to remove battery, but attach the negative lead to the car chassis or engine block , Even a 20 mile ride wont add a lot to the battery .

Bought a CTEK and charged our XC60 for 18 hours just to ensure the battery is good - will repeat once a fortnight whilst this continues. Found out some XC60s have AGM batteries and some don't so worth a check what battery and what charger?

Same with the V60... according to my owner's manual the auto version has an AGM battery while the manual version has an EFB type. And my manual V60 does indeed have an EFB battery which - according to my smart charger - requires a different setting.

That's interesting. I have a 2017 XC60 D5 Auto and it's fitted with an EFB. Maybe there weren't any AGMs when it rolled of the production line!
