Not going anywhere at the moment and I understand lots of short drives not beneficial to diesel cars.

Perhaps the more expert can recommend ways of keeping our cars fit in the current circumstances?

Hi John, short journeys aren't good for any engine and a diesel always takes longer to warm up than a petrol in any case.

Thankfully, your car will have a 163 bhp D5 with no DPF so that is one issue that cannot affect you.

Hope it lived up to its reputation and you weren't hurt?

Doesn't look too bad in the photo.
Presumably not economical to repair?

I think the main problem with short journeys is with the DPF. But your '03 does not have one. So I would not worry too much.
Any engine will wear faster if driven on short journeys (most wear occurs whilst warming up) and the battery may need charging occasionally.

I wasn't in it. Wife was driving and was OK.Bit shocked!
Volvo mildly squashed at both ends. Written off. A sad day I had all but sorted everything on it.

Poor white van behind took the brunt of it. Note crease in front cross member from our tow hitch!

A couple of pictures of my 2007 D5 SE Sport.

It's covered a few miles...205,000, but doesn't look too shabby!

Bought 3 years ago as a second, occasional car. However, everyone loves it so much - it gets used more than our other car (535d).

Cleaned last weekend in readiness for the For Sale thread.

We're letting go of the XC90 and the BMW to make way for a nice shiny new(ish) black 2017 mk2 R Design - can't wait!

(Sneaky preview of the new arrival included)

This is our 2nd XC90, the first one (2003 Silver) had a corroded subframe and so we scrapped it in Jan and picked up this lovely 2010 XC90 in blue. Currently on 125k miles. We've done the following so far:

- Cam belt and water pump replacement
- Full Service
- Oil leak fixed relating to broken swirl flap (new swirl flap kit fitted)
- Gearbox service/ flush
- Front seats re-upholstered. They had the common wear and tear on the pleather near where fabric joins. Results are fantastic.
- Full exterior and interior valet (previous owner had a dog).

Next planned jobs:
- purchase and fit foot rails (as we have a roof box).
- replace the plastic cover around the gear shifter as its damaged.
- next year look at the heavy steering.

(Picture of seats were before the valet)
