Auto Box Oil Coolers XC 60`s
Hi all
On late XC60`s, (2017 on) 2WD or 4WD does any one know if an oil cooler is fitted to autos. I have looked at a couple of videos and some when changing gearbox oil show an oil cooler. The reason for asking is I tow a 1700kg caravan to Spain sometimes in very hot weather and think any thing that keeps the gearbox oil cool is a benefit. I know Merc`s in my company car days insisted on an upgrade at the factory to keep the oil cool, even the Touaregs with a potential tow capacity of 3500kg restrict this to about 1500kg if a factory bar is not fitted. I would also be interested in any other points relating to towing with an auto XC60 Just thinking about prevention not cure Thanks for any help in advance |

Not sure on the new model but on the old model the cooler (and heater) is the radiator. The gearbox oil needs to be hot to work properly and keep moisture out. On the new models with the 8-speed box the torque converter is locked nearly all the time now so the oil getting too hot is much less of a problem.
Volvo used to offer an aftermarket gearbox oil cooler kit for the Mk 1 XC90 but only for 2.5T petrol models with the faster revving engine. So whilst I can't say definitively, I doubt there is one available for the new XC60. This was the XC90 one : https://www.volvopartshop.com/oil-co...on-16533-p.asp
