D4192t3
Evening,
I am in the process of a timing belt change on my Volvo S40 1.9d (D4192T3). However after an hour of looking I finally found the crankshaft locking hole on just above the sump join, beneath the oil filler. The instructions I have suggest using an 8mm tool to lock the crankshaft once the camshaft is at TDC. However the 8mm tool does not still flush and I can still turn the crankshaft 10 teeth away from TDC each way. Can anyone advise whether 8mm is the right diameter for the locking pin as to me there is far too much play. Regards, Gez |

Yes it is 8mm. It should lock and not move 10 teeth either way....
See this post with all the instructions: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showpo...40&postcount=8

Thanks. I have put the tool in and the belt can move 2 teeth off TDC clockwise. Is this normal?

Have a look at Biotoxic's guide? See here: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=121836
This is an extract from there:

Thanks finally locked the crankshaft. I hadn't looked through the cover slit properly.
I am now looking to buy a replacement timing belt kit. There is a cheap kit on eurocarparts which includes tensioner for around £50. They also do more expensive kits (SKF) but does it really matter if I buy the cheapest? Secondly does anyone recommend the water pump replacement (car is at 75k) at the same time? |

Quote:
With regards to the water pump, many many people here say that the petrol pump is good for 150,000-200,000 miles and there is no point changing for a cheapy aftermarket one that may fail in a year or two. Not sure if the same applies to the diesel water pump too. In my case again, since we have 142K on the clock, I am thinking of changing it anyway.

Thanks. I want to keep the car as long as I can keep it running!
I will give Rufe a ring in the morning to compare prices, if there is not much in it I would much prefer original parts, what sort of discount do they offer? Ironically I live nearby so will see if I can order for same day collection. |

Depends on the parts. It's not a lot, but it still is cheaper than elsewhere
