RE: Volvo 480 Mirrors question
Hi.
Not sure if the 480 is exactly the same as the 440 in this respect, but carefully lever off the black triangle trim from the inside of the mirror housing inside the car and you will expose 3 bolts. Undo these and the mirror will come off the outside. You can then either check it like that, or you will need to remove the door card as well to disconnect the multiplug inside the door and remove the mirror entirely. Of course you could always carefully lever the mirror glass out and check the connectors behind that with the mirror still attached to the car... It is up to you, but may I suggest a Haynes manual to help you out here? Cheers, Dan. |

RE: Volvo 480 Mirrors question
hi,
i'll check out the haynes, but I want going to bother with it, not much 480 in there. tried the internal tringle, but that only reveals 1 of the three bolts, will have another look, cheers |

RE: Volvo 480 Mirrors question
Hi all,
Isn't there two types of mirror? On the earlier models the mirror is very well attached to the door and on later models it's held on further back from the windshield by a stem? I doubt that you have a broken wire, more a seized mechanism, therefore causing it to trip out.

RE: Volvo 480 Mirrors question
its attached by 3 bolt (1994 2.0 ES)
according to the haynes you have to prize out the glass to get to the gubbins, before i do this, is getting a new glass going to be a problem?? ......One that fits properly anyway. |

RE: Volvo 480 Mirrors question
Hi.
The reason there doesn't appear to be 'much 480' in the Haynes manual is because 90% of parts are shared between the whole 400 series. A 480 is a 440 with a different body shell essentially. As for the mirrors, the later ones are different but they attach to the door in the same way as you can 'upgrade' to the later mirrors on older cars if you want to. As for the glass, if you prise the glass out properly it will still have the clips on the back so it will go straight back in again. Have a look in the haynes manual! ;-) Later, Dan. |

RE: Volvo 480 Mirrors question
If you DO break the glass then it will have to be a genuine Volvo replacement to get the "wide angle" outer edge.
In my experience, most "generic" mirrors are rubbish! Mike Sterland |
