Default Instrument Panel Lights

I have just bought a C70 (2013MY) but I find the instrument panel lights are so bad. It seems that Volvo in the course of making us save energy has taken the matter too far. The design of the instruments is such that it is very difficult to read them in anything but direct light. They do not come on when the engine is started, as they used to do in my previous C70 nor when the dipped headlights come on either automatically or manually, but only when their sensor is sufficiently shaded.

Does anyone know of way in which they can be forced into the "ON" state?

I really do not want to get caught speeding because I cannot see the speedometer!

I have exactly this issue with my 2012 C70, also recently purchased, for which I traded in my previous 2008 one.

I'm going down the route of buying a DiCE and a Windows 10 tablet running Volvo's VIDA diagnostic & control software. There may or may not be a specific setting in VIDA for the instrument panel lights - as yet not known, the kit is en route to me at time of writing. But I've had it confirmed that you can use VIDA to adjust the sensitivity of the daylight sensor, that finally activates the panel lights and turns the main console display reverse-image when it thinks it's dark enough. I'll be doing that if there's nothing more specific.

Get hold of member Vindo on this forum if you're interested in doing similar. (If I remember right he has a post further down this For Sale section.) Or you might have a member locally with the kit who can help you out. I'd ask in the General or the main S40/V50 sections though rather than this For Sale subsection.
