1998 V70R Auto fwd.
Hi All,
My Father in law is selling his V70r. Mileage is around 190'000 miles so nicely run in and MOT'd until May 2019 Black with "lovely..." beige and wood interior. Mechanically it is sound having had anything and everything done as and when needed. Some recent highlights include new front dampers and top mounts, new Radiator, new headlights and new MAF. It has had a recent timing belt but I can't remember exactly when. There are a few minor issues, the throttle is a little stiff and the auto selector button is permanently stuck in but he has lived with these for years. The immobilizer sometimes gets a bit stuck but removing and re-inserting the key always fixes it. A replacement arial is included. 4 new tyres fitted recently, good quality Uniroyal rainsport 3's. The bodywork isn't great but surprisingly good for its mileage. No major damage but a fair amount of rust creeping in on the tailgate. One of the alloys has been welded but it holds air. No smoke on startup. Autobox seems to be in perfect order and engine pulls well. Please contact Iain on 07707 304075 if you want to discuss the car in more detail or arrange a viewing. The car is located near Aberdeen in Scotland. He is looking for around £4k. Edited to add, Apologies for the pictures, it was very sunny at the time. The alloys are dark grey and the interior is the quilted suede/alcantara. |

Good question. I don't know these cars well at all but the bumper has never been modified. Iain has owned for the last few years and put on around 22'000 miles and that is the condition he bought it in.
Do you have a pic of what it is supposed to look like? |

Think he may have to lower his expectations with this one...

There are similar cars advertised with same < less mileage, no rust, all complete with the genuine R spec etc and they are not shifting at the £4K mark.
I agree with rudi dudi on this one, the price will turn potential buyers away.

Thanks All, Iain is very flexible on price and I have now pointed out the bumper to him.
For the v70r experts here, what would you say is a good valuation? I periodically (not that often admittedly) check on ebay and I have never ever seen one below £4k. The only one on ebay at the moment is £4500 and higher mileage (although is an AWD in a very nice colour). Last edited by Ransoman; Jun 4th, 2018 at 14:33. |

Your biggest issue is the bumper..or lack of one.
Purists will want one of these as it is a distinguished feature of the R over a normal model. These bumpers are rare and hard to get hold of.. If you do find one it will be top dollar.. Factor in the questionable body work, rust and the undesirable beige interior(the dark interiors are far far more popular) and not worth a lot to be honest. In my opinion no more than a £1000 in its entirety.. On the other hand you could break it and claw back more money that way.. Or stick it on Ebay as the place seems full of idiots.. You might get lucky and some clown pays way over the odds. Good luck Last edited by rudi dudi; Jun 4th, 2018 at 16:26. Reason: Typo |

Quote:
The rust is localized only to the tailgate. To be honest if the interior didn't want to make me vomit I would offer to buy it. It really is that ugly, The bodywork isn't that bad. Just a lot of stonechips on the bonnet. I'll feed this back to him and see what he wants to do. I know he is open to negotiation. Last edited by Ransoman; Jun 4th, 2018 at 17:13. |
