V70 D5 Engine Swap
Hi All,
Its been a long time since I posted on here, but back in a V70 after a few years away. Anyway bought a 2004 D5 a few weeks back, problem is my wife smashed it up last week (write-off). Its currently in my garage awaiting breaking. Now I just happened on eBay to spot a 2003 D5 that has had the engine go pop, I may be able to get the car for a good price and swap the good engine from mine. Question is...is this a pig to do, do I have to worry about the ECU on the old car recognising my new engine? Can I do this on the drive without a 4 post lift? Thoughts, I have the payout on my car...if I could pick up this motor for a couple of hundred I would be quids in. Regards, James |

I did my xc90 on drive with just a engine crane and a pair of axle stands,
Mine was auto and i just unbolted torque converter and gearbox and pulled them apart and left gearbox and torque converter in place, Lifted engine out, swopped parts over and refitted, No engine coding required, just engine number on logbook if your fussy

I think you should be alright as long as its the same engine as the one that's dead. Don't forget where any of the sensors go or how they get wired up as some muppet screwed up my engine swap (D5 XC70 MY05) as he didn't connect one causing it to run lean and blow the head and turbo - grrrrr, we no longer talk...

V70 '05 D5 engine out
Back in the old days, I would always try to take an engine out with the transmission left in place; I know I've got to do a clutch on my old V70 at some point, and what's putting me off is dropping the whole shooting match of engine, transmission and subframe on the floor on my drive.
Does the engine wiggle past the inner flitch with the transmission in place on a '05 V70 D5 183? Anyone done it? |
