Default Cruise Control

I'm having an issue with the cruise control on my S60R (2004).
When I switch it on, the light (writing) comes on in the dashboard, and stays on , but cruise control is not functioning, the speed will start to drop.
I'm thinking that it's to do with how the speed is measured?

Does anyone have any experience/knowledge they can share.

Thanks!

Have you actually set your speed using the arrows? If you just press the cruise button it doesn't activate it, just turns the function on. You need to press the up or down arrow to actually use it then the On symbol appears.

Have you been using it OK up till now?

The reason I ask is that on my 2001 V70, what you describe is only turning CC on, not engaging it. To engage, get up to the speed you want to set it to, then press the '+'. Now it should be engaged. You can increase or decrease the speed with the '+' and '-' buttons. The others ('0' and a circular arrow) will disengage it and re-engage it, reverting to the last set speed. Touching the brake pedal will also disengage it.

Pressing the button marked 'Cruise' will turn it off again, and your speed setting will be lost.

Later models than mine may have more features, and work differently.

The brake pedal sensor goes sometimes bad, and it's related to the cruise control - it's the black tube secured onto the brake servo inside the engine bay (a bit annoying to remove, secured with a small metal clip, also annoying to put back in place, may have someone pushing on it while placing back the clip)

Am setting the speed using the arrows.
It used to work fine.

You can test if it's the brake pedal sensor by putting you foot under the brake pedal and lift it before you engage or set CC. If CC then works until you next apply the brakes, it's a good chance its this sensor. If it is this you may also find that your brake lights will flicker on and off as you go over bumps etc.

First port of call is get it plugged in to vida and see what codes are stored. I'm just outside Mallow if you haven't got access to vida yourself.

I had a faulty Brake Pedal Position sensor that clips into the Brake Servo. As oragex says, it will stop the Cruise control functioning. However, it also stops the Cruise writing showing on the dash. Also, mine threw up a message on the dash saying “ Brake Assist Service Required”, so I don’t think this is related to your issue.

I had a faulty brake pedal sensor and this trick didn't work, but it's worth a try.
If you have VIDA you can see the readout from this sensor and test it that way, which is what I did.

I would expect that if something happened to a clutch or brake sensor that the cruise system would sit down and the writing disappear from the display.
If it's still up there I'd be inclined to suspect the ribbon cable in the steering wheel.
