Default New key fob

Since having our 08 XC90 we have only had one key... With a Mrs like mine it's a major gamble. For security and purpose of mobility I would to have a second key. The last owners did misplace a key but got Volvo to cut a blade that fits a fob that they didn't buy due to the cost. I've bought a second key/fob from eBay and using the genuine key Volvo cut. Would this key have a chip in it so it can get programmed to the car or is it empty? And can anyone recommend someone to programe the key to the car in or near Glasgow? Thanks

Sad to say that your only option is a Volvo dealer. It will cost approx £300 as I recall. Any other source will not work.

I remember seeing this guy did it successfully but economics work in mysterious ways so ask your dealer how much first I guess!

The getto way is to cut as many chinese keys you'd like, then tape the genuine key with the chip inside the steering column right near the antenna ring - you'll want to try a few positions until the antenna reads the chip. Then use the non chipped keys to drive the car. Do not attempt to remove the chip from the genuine key (fragile)
