Question 2010 V70 rear brake dust shields

Hello ,
Can anyone advise me if I can get after market rear dust shields rather than the genuine Volvo which are very over priced at £52 each.
Does anyone know if it is possible to use parts from the Ford Kuga?
I also have been told that these shields are not necessary . Is this true ?
Could anyone tell me how long it will take to replace these rear covers ?
Obliged for any replies and advise .

You can use aftermarket. I’m not sure about the Ford Kuga, but the Ford Galaxy or S Max may have the same shields? (P3 platform cars, like yours, share parts with these models, not the Kuga).

You should have brake shields installed, as there’s chance of stones/other grime flying up off the road & getting trapped in the braking system. The shields are there to minimise this happening, so its best to use them. As for how long it’ll take… probably 30-45 minutes to do both sides.

Yep you can use Mk 1 Ford Kuga on the rears - I've done that before. But they aren't cheap, still about £25 a side it's now an utter myth that Ford parts prices are cheap - in many cases more expensive than Volvo for an inferior part.

From memory they're held on with M6 bolts with a 8mm head (rather than the usual 10mm) so invariable they will shear or round off. Thank you Ford.

You can also just remove them, that won't pose any MOT issues but as said they were there for a reason.

whichever you DO fit
take the time and effort to Paint them properly, something like "stone chip" or "smoothright/hammeright"
why
the "something" they are coated with from the factory is really thin, and the last set i did ,volvo S40 , it Looked like the sheet had been galvanised, THEN the shields pressed out of the sheet, leaving all the edges raw, "hello again rust my old nemesis "

plus the sheer comedic value of the mot tester (if they arent a utter clownshoes that is) when they See nicely painted new debris/dust covers IS worth the time/effort to paint them ,,
