What makes you think that crud just arrived in the fuel pump?

Not just arrived, just that it was strange to get blocked all of a sudden seeing as no additional crud should have got into it as I had a filter pre-pump fitted.

Riight. Means you have been driving it like that for yonks, and then suddenly a problem, right? Got some yuck in the float bowl too perhaps?

Maybe that wasn't why you were having the problem, have you tried starting it yet?

Yeah problem was solved by cleaning out the fuel pump. The gunk was stopping the diaphram moving. No issues with carbs as I rebuilt them a while back.

Volvo never fitted an inline fuel filter. Of course, back then, the fuel tank was rust free and the pump filter was cleaned at each 6k mile service..................

40 odd years later things have changed..................

LOL. This is the first car I have had with a filter in the pump. Think I am going to have to read the service manual in case there are any other anomalies I have missed.

Getting back on this slowly. New Magnecor ignition leads fitted, as the old ones were massively too long and were wrapped around the distributer, and new bumpers on their way from Vietnam .
