I assume he is hoping to get a lot more than £2200 but that would probably be the max a 960 would go for.
Ah!!!!

Should have gone to Specsavers Alan

PS. That was a pretty clever ploy, as long as the seller didn't hold him to the contract and he might have ended up paying £2,200!

Default This is fun to watch!

Well, I never thought that this would turn into quite the saga that has unfolded!

I can see now why the garage that supplied my "new" V70 very strongly advised me against trying to sell the S90 via Ebay - thank you Dyrdals of York!

In some ways I almost hope that the current vendor does turn a profit - he's having to work very hard for the sale. But as has been said, is it really worth it for the chance of perhaps a couple of hundred pounds profit?

Most of all I'd like to think that the car eventually lands with someone who'll appreciate it for what it is, and keep it on the road.

I'll be watching Ebay tomorrow morning that's for sure!

Yes Luke, only £1,364.75 (odd figure) and didn't reach its reserve.

The seller's strategy would seem (from the MX5 sale) to be running another auction... then another until the sale reaches an acceptable price. I can't help thinking this is a bizarre strategy to make (maybe) a few hundred pounds, but then what do I know

I think he's using the wrong platform, Alan.

EBay may be a good source when looking for a project or spare parts, but I would not be inclined to use it for a car - especially a specialist niche market one like 'C.J.'s. There are too many chancers and comedians on there to be sure of a pleasant, hassle free transaction.

I can't help thinking that he would do much better either offering it on a classic site or sending it to someone like Matthewsons for auction with a sensible reverse. That is where I would look first!

What I would not do is buy any car from someone who has owned it for so short a time. I doubt that he even has a registration document in his name. Surely anyone's first question would be 'Why are you selling it, then?'. Too many opportunities for things to go pear shaped for my liking!

Regards, John.

PS See you at Calverton on Sunday? J.

Absolutely. It's over 5 years since I'd sold a car, and that too was via Gumtree, so being a bit out of touch I asked Dyrdal's advice - which was very definitely to avoid Ebay for exactly the reasons that have now played out.

In a way I feel a bit disappointed for the vendor. Possibly he bought the car intending to keep it, and then had second thoughts and so he's now in a fix. Or possibly he fancied himself as a bit of a Mike Brewer-style Wheeler Dealer, but sadly TV reality shows are a bit removed from reality!

Unless it's now sold and the seller has simply accepted the loss, presumably we'll see it on Ebay again soon. Or maybe he'll think again and decide to became a long-term Volvo "classic" owner!

Hard to say which is the right platform. In my experience eBay gets the widest audience. I'd always go with a classified ad though.
I sympathise with the buyer's intention of flipping cars for a profit. However all the times I've done it myself I've kept the car for a couple months or more, whilst I tackle various jobs and clean them up. Fair enough this car didn't need much doing but I'd rather see a totally honest advert.

Once I spent ages doing a full headlining re-trim on a 740 estate (including the fiddly older style sunroof/moonroof trim) only to have the buyer show up and bluntly state that he was going to rip it out, rat rod style. Cruel world

Just for info, the buyer of CaptJack's car was on FB last night asking how to join the forum, so it'll be good to see the car's life continuing to be recorded here.

He was very pleased with the car, as you'd expect!

I thought the car didn't sell as the reserve was not met ?

He must have contacted the seller after the auction? You can ask him when he shows himself
