Unhappy Lots of faults and strange behaviour

Fellow Volvo enthusiast,
I’m in need of some serious expert help....

2 weeks ago my V50 broke down while driving, "engine service required" appeared. Engine stalled. (of course girlfriend and dog where in the car :S)
Engine would not start but did turn over. Got the following messages;
-"brake system failure"
-"immobilizer see manual"
-"anti-skid service req."

Tried refitting all CEM connectors… No luck (tried starting for 2 hours before battery went) wipers went one 2 times as though I touched the wiper switch..
Window 1-touch function stopped working on the right window (just went 2 inches for each push)
Other windows all still worked

I did have a universal OBD-reader and gotten massages such as;
-Communication lost with dash cluster
-Can bus communication error...
-Fuel volume regulation... low, or something like that
I did a reset and they did not came back

Later that night i came back to tow the car thinking my CEM was fried... and it started (?! fixed itself)
No issues what so ever?? :S

A week later car would not turn over.. Ignition switch to 3, headlights went off as they should when you start, but no starter action
"anti-skid" massage came on and stayed on (1 hour of trying to get the starter to turn but again nothing)
Went to get my dad to tow the car home,, towed the car up to speed and started instantly
So no crank with key but it did run perfectly when clutch started..

Another week later (today)
Turned key in the morning first attempt, nothing (no crank).. Second attempt instant start..

Driving 70mph "engine service required" came up.. Boost was there but lag (above 2.500rpm)
On my way home couple hours later, no boost at all
Message disappeared, but still no boost

What can this be?!?!
Could a faulty ignition switch cause the whole car to go bananas?
I removed the CEM and tried to clean it, but could not get it open
(did give it all a good spray with "electric spray")

I have red allot on the CEM; but then normally a refitting would do the trick

And the ignition switch, but the thing is here; first no start and crank, 2 weeks later; start but no crank with key

(sorry for my grammar, I'm a dutch dislect :P)

id check the battery and all earths ,make sure all are clean and tight, could be worth checking the output of the alternator to see if its a constant charge,should be around 41.2 volts at 1500 rpm, if its higher than that then is over charging, if it dont get to that then its under charging, sounds like a loose or dirty connection

Thanks for the advise!
I did check all earth's on the left side of the engine, all seem fine (0 ohm)

Battery;
Key pos. 0 = 12,6V
Key pos. 2 = 12,2V
Key pos. 3 = 11.2V (during starting)
Stationary rpm 14.4V

41.2V revved at 1500-2000 rpm??? Did not check that yet, will give it a go tomorrow, but would that not been picked up by car diagnostic?

@jeffmasson; that's what I meant with "electronic spray"
Still thanks for the input, you know how to open the CEM?

Sure looks/feels like a ground or connection problem, but where to start with a V50??

Troubles are all around ! So has to be something like CEM or ignition switch...

When reading on forums I think CEM, but working it does nothing for me

sorry missed that bit. i also gave my ecm and door connectors a clean i think the canbus is very fussy and any rise in resistance makes it throw a wobble you might want to try disconnecting the battery and cleaning the ignition switch connector and anything else that takes your fancy. i did not open the cem as its the contacts that are the problem so was no need for me.

as for the 41.2v he could mean check in ac mode this makes sure the diodes on the alternator are converting its ac output to dc properly or its a miss type and meant 14.2v.

good luck and keep us updated

I did forget something, my V50 has got a sunroof.. so the car did have some water in it in his life

Did the door en CEM connectors with the contact spray..
Are there more connectors besides the one going in the CEM that could cause something similar?

Any info is appreciated... car is driving me mad..

If your planing on keeping the car for a while or getting another volvo next you could look into getting a dice got mine for just £75 it will give you the fault code then guide you though tests to find the exact fault. is a pain to install and you will need a laptop or computer near the car. You don't need a pro copy of windows though as there is ways round that with the old copy of vida.

If you do have one of the above download vida first quick Google will pop up lots and if you can get it work then buy the dice.

It helped me trace my main fault to my ecm witch was fix with a quick spray. My obd2 reader just gave a can bus fault so was no help probably saved me best part of half a k

If you need any help installing just let me know.

The ECM is in the left wheel arc, isn't it?
Just take the plastic wheel arc out and you can get to it?

Plan now;
-Spray ECM (=ECU?) connector
-Ground wire on transmisson/chassis

After that replacing ignition switch...
Than I'm out of ideas..

Is there a ignition switch relay?

Car works great now except 0 boost... aaaaaaaa

I would be so happy when this is all over.. If I fixed it that is, not if it disappears as it already did
