Thanks, will check for the seam tomorrow. I dont think the rear will need a full panel replacement (although I'll hold off until I've seen the underside).

Regarding the rear pan, I guess it depends on how thin the metal has become in other areas. Mine had only a few holes, but was so thin & easy to perforate with a screw driver that it ended up being better to fit complete new pans. My bodywork guru (ex R-R MPW) who did the work was extremely impressed with the quality and fit of both the front and rear floor pan panels.

Seems (ho ho) that the worst of the rust is further forward than the seam

Spent the afternoon scraping layer after layer of underseal off the inner wing. It might be great at protecting the car, but I was cursing whoever invented it today! 4 hours later & I've only got this far:

Hole from the inside (now that I've removed a bunch of filler)

Looking forward to getting my hands on the new engine (many thanks to Antz) so that I can distract myself with that in between scraping sessions.

Last night with a bit of help from Nick & Mitch I got the windscreen out. The good news is its not too bad in behind- some of the paint was a bit flaky, but no rust to be found! Took a while to get the chrome off & it didn't come off perfectly, but hopefully should be able to bend it back in to shape no problem.

Tonight we had a look at the full extent of the rust at the top of the wing. The shotgun was very bad & had been covered with an extra strip of metal to hide the rot. We pulled it off & chipped out more filler.

There was a big hole which must be where some dirt built up behind where the wing meets the A frame.

Only 1 solution- chop out the lot!

The plan is to form 3 separate panels which will be welded back in to fix the A-frame. I've ordered a new shotgun + cowl which will then go in afterwards.

Angry More Amazon rusty bits

I quite enjoyed sharing my rust with others so here are two more from when I started it in August. I thought it would only take a couple of weeks until I discovered the trader who did it up for sale has shares in Isopon. It will be very good and very strong once finished.

There's nothing better than seeing the nasty brown & orange replaced with some nice shiny steel.

Looking better already.. tonight Mitch was busy cutting some steel, bending & welding while Nick & I chipped off some underseal from his wagon.

Nice new panels welded in to fix the A pillar.

Not the best picture, but once Mitch was finished I smoothed it off a bit with the grinder.
